Raining bullets hinder cricket

Just last week I was telling a friend how all the major eight test playing teams were involved in good cricket now, and what more can a cricket fan ask for. I didn't touch wood I guess, here we have a cancelled tour. Thank God all the players are safe, but its very sad that eight lives were lost in the Lahore attack.

The cricket world is already in a mayhem with number of views and suggestions from number of quarters. The most irritating fact is that when the Lankan players themselves have been very considerate and diplomatic with the whole episode, cricketers elsewhere have began to raise their unwanted concerns about the future.

Duncan Fletcher has cautioned England's players against playing the IPL, saying some types of terrorist attacks can be carried out more easily in India than Pakistan. This is his explanation, "The traffic is often so bad in the big Indian cities where a lot of the cricket is played that the bus can move along only slowly at times, which turns it into a sitting duck for terrorists." He thinks its the terrorists' modus operandi to attack the team bus. Cant they attack using helicoptors ? What will he say then, "There are lot of open spaces in Australia, which makes it easy for terrorists to aim and shoot the players.", is it ??

The Lahore incident was just one incident which hogged the limelight. There are militant attacks almost everyday in Pakistan and India. In the past few decades, the two countries have lost thousands of lives. If the size and population are causing few problems in India to implement fool-proof safety measures, in Pakistan its political instability and cluttered politics.

The response of Brett Lee when asked about the Lahore incident and pulling out of IPL is the one which every Indian and Pakistan citizen has been giving to terrorism for decades; "....we can't let terrorism stop us going about what we do with our lives...." This is the best way to fight terrorism.

It will be good if players, officials and the ICC unite and decide on a good solution for the problem of safety of touring teams, and make sure terrorism doesn't win over cricket That will be a fitting way to pay homage to the lives lost in terrorist attacks.
