Ganguly's Dadagiri

Sourav Ganguly, the Dada of Indian cricket, has hit the headlines once again, for compelling an on field umpire to ask the third umpire's decision, even when the other on field umpire feels he is out. It was cry babyish behavior and I am afraid is setting a wrong example for his fans. When you see such an effort from a fielder to take your catch, you better walk off at the first place. The catch was not dropped and neither did Smith touch it accidentally on the ground after taking it. (Video)

And the square leg umpire also feels its clean. So what then ? You or me or even, the most reliable and consistent player of the IPL Rohit Sharma, would have walked away, cursing himself for the shot and secretly admiring Smith's athleticism on the field. (Not to mention Gilly. He would have walked right away !) But the person under consideration is Ganguly. He can poke and nag (or rag) the umpire to seek the third umpire's decision.

The third umpire's state is more pathetic. With all the technology available, how dare he give Ganguly out ? Can he stand as umpire in a match in Kolkatha in future ? Or can he even eat a peaceful dinner in his hotel room when he travels to Kolkatha next time ? No way, and he also knows that. So conveniently, citing the rule "benefit of doubt to the batsman" (But what is the doubt here ?), he rules him not out.

If Ganguly really deserved to be in there, and if his team really deserved to win, he wouldnt have been out the very next over, and Knight Riders would have won the game. The outcome of the game itself showcases the true winner.

Maybe, as Ganguly says, Warne might not have been a clean player during his international days. But then the question is about Ganguly and his behavior. So it was only diversionary tactics by Ganguly.

It is absolutely right for Warne to get angry that his team was made to wait during both the innings. (I hope Shah Rukh was not giving them a pep talk during that time. This is....this is, not your Chak De film, dear Shah Rukh !) Such a behavior is not new from Ganguly. The famous wait of Steve Waugh for the toss was lauded as Ganguly's aggressiveness by Indian media, but it was ugly.

So, fans of Ganguly not take this as an example. Its not good for the young generation to draw inspiration from this sort of behavior. Understand its human to err, and sort it all out before you worship your God, Sourav Ganguly.

has he done a crime or what..?? he just waited for the umpire's signal... It was the umpire who wasn't sure of and referred it upstairs.. the fact is that the video wasn't that convincing.. It was the commentators and the media( and of course Shane warne) who created unnecessary ripples.. Ganguly's a great player.. and I don't know why Dravid's fans(like you) are always chafing at the bit to point finger on Ganguly.. maybe too jealous of Dada's record as captain and as an ODI player( and now in T20 as well) which Dravid couldn match and he never would..
excuse me, there is no question of dravid here. and i am not telling ganguly is a total waste. he is, and will remain one of india's greatest players. but, his idea of aggression is something i dont agree with. stripping the shirt, making a captain wait for the toss, are not good traits of a good captain.
can u deny the amount of racket his fans cause if he is not taken in the team ?

i will be a fool to deny ganguly's cricketing skills. but, i dont like his attitude on field. its not correct. warne has every reason to be pissed of for waiting on the field.

and i a mnever jealous of ganguly's captaincy record. i know dravid is a poor captain, and taht is not the issue here. since u started it, one small stastical info : ganguly is india's most successful test captain, esp. abroad. check out who played the winning role in every one of those innings.
