IPL : Lots to improve

Chennai Vs Mumbai was a thrilling match. The lack of penetration in Chennai bowling was glaring. Guess they need to pull out something special to pull out a victory against Knight Riders on Saturday. Mumbai, well, they missed Sachin for sure. Already, the Mumbaikars are sad that their lobbying to have the name 'Indians' and blue jersys are helping them in no way to win the match. Hope Sachin recovers soon, and adds weight to the team and the contest. Or atleast improve the mood in the camp

The coverage of the matches is very very poor. The cameramen don't seem to have a fair idea about the game. A few instances:
  • Raina is swinging the bat towards extra-cover, and misses. The camera swings from longoff to fine leg, and finally comes to rest at the umpire's hat.
  • Oram has just taken an outstanding catch at longoff. Just after the catch, the camera goes on to show the audience roaring in D-stand (man, show the cheerleaders at least!) and after few seconds its advertisement. No on-field interaction of players, or the batsman departing.
  • Murali is about to start a new over. Camera is zoomed out, showing mid-off to long-leg, till Murali reaches the umpire. Then, all of a sudden, there is blur, as the camera zooms in, batsman hitting to fineleg, camera swinging to mid wicket, and then to fineleg. By that time, the ball is back to the keeper.
Clearly, the intension is not to cover cricket. The commentators are no better. Hayden is dismissed in the last ball of 19th over, and this is what Arun Lal has to say, ".....he has got the danger man..... Whats going to happen to Super Kings now ?" Man, its just 20 overs match, and Hayden is out after hammering the bowlers for 19 overs.

If these things are bad, the advertisements of IPL are worse. Whether it is the old man suffering without seat, or the man in the lift beaten up, these ads seem to depict that its correct to forget our basic etiquettes and sense, to support the team we like. Its all very bad advertising tactics.

The public must not lose their head over this contest, and be balanced in their outlook. For the sake of supporting 11 players, who are not you kith or kin, who will be paid in crores, we must not go to the extent of forgetting basic human values and manners. Lets all enjoy some exciting cricket, and have a great time watching the tight competition. Whoever wins or loses, let cricket be the true winner.
